Tips To Finding A Cheap Holiday And Cheap Holidays To Corsica

By Wayne Bromiley

Corsica is a tiny island in the Mediterranean sea. Only 183 kms/114 miles long and 83 kms/52 miles wide, this tiny island is more mountain that anything else. Two thirds of its land mass is mountain, twenty percent is forest. That leaves a lot of Corsica to explore on your next adventure holiday. Look no further for tips to find a cheap holiday and cheap holidays to Corsica.

If the mountains call to you, let them call you to Corsica. While there are shorter, less challenging trails to wander, the GR 20 is Corsica's "Pacific Crest Trail". Covering more than 180 kms/110 miles, this advanced trail travels essentially from North to South from Calenzana to Conza through several mountain rangers. While Vizzvona is approximately midway between the two destinations, this trek is not for the novice hiker. Taking fifteen days or more to travel, the GR 20 is a professional mountaineer's dream trek, complete with "gites" where you can pitch camp along the way.

The Desert de Agriates is an excellent nature reserve to visit, as is the A Cupulatta nature reserve. Some other reserves boast hiking trails that also have other uses. For example, the Gorges de la Restonica is popular with both cyclists and hikers.

Those into sports involving rivers and rapids have several choices to experience the thrill. Novice to expert paddlers can enjoy the Gravona River. Extreme paddlers can enjoy Class V and Class VI rapids on the Fium Orbo River. For those looking to dive into adventure, you can not go wrong with a visit to the U Lavante Diving Centre in the Propriano Gulf.

As a place that is tied to antiquity, Corsica is home to a couple of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The Parc Naturel de Corse contains one of these sites, the Scandola Nature Reserve. This reserve, and its parent park, is home to thousands of plant species and animal species that are very rare. You can also visit the Calanche Cliffs, which offer a spectacular view.

For those who want to see and touch a bit of the history of this incredible island, there are numerous places to stop. Be sure to visit the Casa Bonaparte, once home to the ancient French General Napoleon Bonaparte and now a National Museum. For a touch of history with a bit of a work out, take the walk from Calvi up to the Chapel de Notre Dame de La Serra for an amazing view. Or take the hundred and eighty seven steps which have been carved into the limestone cliff down from Bonifacio down to the sea at the King Aragon Steps.

France and Italy give equal influence to the cuisine on the island of Corsica. As such, you can find anything from traditional pizzas and pastas from the Italian as well as the dried meats and fresh sheep milk cheeses from the French. You will be certain to find something delicious to eat.

There are so many places to enjoy on such a small island. Corsica's more than 1000 km/620 miles of coastline, more than 200 beaches and mountains make it a veritable paradise to explore.
